Arithas, whose surname is unknown, is the Sheriff of the travel outpost named Paththorn, on the border of North Urushee and the irradiated wastes of Ionin. An escapee that was born into slavery as part of the notorious Closed Door District in Srenluna, her primary work involves maintaining the safety and security of the town and its nearby areas.

Background

Born as a slave, Arithas has no recognized surname, as the identity of her parents is unknown. For the first two decades of her life, she worked under for the many businesses and properties of the Genro family, with her early years seeing her take on roles of manual labour, personal servant and housework. The burden of her work, and nature of it, would develop with her age - The precise details of what should she would be asked to do are not ones she was willing to share with me due to personal trauma. Offered exceptionally little time for herself, she would earn an opportunity for her freedom from a chance encounter with a benefactor whose identity she wishes not to divulge. Through them, she learned of the vast freedom the world had to offer, something she had not known before due to her life in effective captivity. Under the cover of night, said benefactor would assist her in a daring escape attempt, resulting in the Draconis eluding the Genro's vast security measures and scaling the walls of Srenluna, after which she fled as far as her legs could carry her until she reached the town of Marlton to the south.

Eventually, Arithas would make her way to Paththorn, though struggling to adapt to her new found life along the way. She would meet an eventual love interest in the form of Deputy Shinandra, an Urusheen Elf that was working for the outpost under Sheriff Pym. Taking the Draconis in as part of her home, she would help Arithas rehabilitate and adapt to regular life, taking sympathy on her plights. Pym, seeing potential in the Draconis, would start to train her in kind, discovering an excellent knack for marksmanship and a keen eye, eventually offering her employment with the office.

In early 1180, an infamous firefight would break out at the Sheriff's Office following an operation to eliminate a group of bandits illegally smuggling weaponry into North Urushee. The operation, which involved hiring a small group of outside mercenaries for assistance, would turn out to be a distraction as members of the bandit gang would lay siege to the office using their acquired weaponry. Pym had co-operated with the group, as Arithas' past identity had been discovered and reported to the Genro family. Sheriff Pym had chosen to work with the criminal Lokk Saint to apprehend her, whilst Deputy Shinandra was killed in the siege.

The mercenary group chose to remain loyal to the work they had been hired to perform, rescuing Arithas in their ensuing firefight, destroying large portions of the Sheriff's Office with explosive payloads. While Pym was able to successfully flee the scene, Lokk Saint was forced to surrender with severe injuries. With her new life in ruins, Arithas was given little choice but to find a way to rebuild, reluctantly taking on the role of Sheriff as the town looked for some figure of leadership in the dark aftermath of the violence.

Characteristics

Arithas is known by the residents of Paththorn, and frequent travellers that stop at the location, as a strict, no-nonsense Sheriff that enforces her justice on the area to an "almost obsessive level". Her past traumas appear to have developed a so-called "mean streak" in the Draconis, making her ruthless in tracking down outlaws and bandits - Sometimes to a reckless degree, if local legends on how often she would return from her work injured are to be believed. Regardless, her dedication to her work seems to be appreciated by the residents of Paththorn, and the area remains a safe haven in an otherwise hostile environment.

The Sheriff is also known as a sharpshooting prodigy. During my interview with her, she was keen to demonstrate her ability, using 6 shots of her signature revolver to shatter a line of glass bottles in just over 5 seconds. While I suspect she was showing off to an extent, it was nonetheless impressive. While Arithas was cordial during my meeting with her, I gathered a sense that she was also very guarded towards outsiders - A common detail, or perhaps lack thereof, that I gathered from other residents of the town was her unwillingness to open up much towards others. Likely, this too is a consequence of her past.
