The following is an excerpt from a report made by Social Historian Soonwyn Benroose, titled "On Monster Races integrating into Society".
Of particular interest to me in the modern climate of Erra is the aftereffects of The Collapse upon the many Monsters and Mythos that previously populated the land. It is well-documented that civilized were not the only individuals capable of wielding magical arts: Of particular note, General Rytar's Field Guide to Survival (Loose translation) extensively reported the Enphunian military's numerous encounters with dangerous creatures across their many campaigns. In it, the author took much effort to explain the numerous ways both sentient and wild monsters could make use of the Arcane Arts to deceive or attack potential prey, and the countermeasures he devised against them. Reports from Enphunian scouts eventually began to paint a picture of their way of life, including the social heirarchies and communities they would form among each other - In some cases, crudely mirroring similar examples observed in their surroundings.
Unfortunately, due to the chaos of the immediate aftermath from The Collapse, what happened to these species can only remain a matter of speculation. However, from interviewing and learning the accounts of such individuals, I have begun to piece this unknown history together. The first observation I can make is that the sequence of events directly following The Collapse are alarmingly similar to what befell the majority of Erra's nations: Any creature that was exposed to, or utilizing Magic at the instant of the event were disintegrated in an instant. Whatever remained of their population would soon fall victim to starvation or attacks from other wildlife due to their significantly diminished numbers.
With their way of life uprooted, they had to make difficult decisions focused on their own preservation and survival above all else - Initially, this meant an increase in attacks upon survivors of The Collapse for whatever supplies remained, over the course of the first several decades. However, this was not the case for every observed species, which leads to the primary point of this article: Some instead chose to attempt integration into the advanced cultures they had spent their lineage shying away from.
