Powered Tricycles

Powered Tricycles, also referred to as Trikes, are personal transportation devices used widely across Erra in the Post-Collapse world. Depending on the model of Tricycle, they are designed to carry a range of individuals or cargos, from single person vehicles to small groups of four.

A Powered Tricycle is a three wheeled vehicle built with a large box structure at the front, functioning as the main balancing weight, storage or passenger seating, and containing the electric battery. The box has two wheels attached on the flanks of it, with a metal frame protruding from the back, with handle bars, a seat, and the third wheel at the end.

The size of this box can vary depending on its purpose - Single user trikes will have smaller front ends, allowing for faster travel speeds, and extra space will be used for storage of cargo or possessions, whereas Carrier trikes intended for transporting other individuals as well will be significantly larger and longer, installing seating or benches that can be occupied.

A Powered Tricycle operates through the use of Electricity, powering the wheels in a similar fashion to other modes of transport such as Trains and Carriers, controlled through a dial adjusted by the user on the handlebars. The dial makes allows different speeds to be set for the trike, allowing the user to adapt to difficult terrain or dense environments if needed. If the Tricycle's battery runs out of stored power or the user wishes to conserve its energy, a manual cycling option is also present. Some model of trikes also feature a hybrid mode, allowing the operator to split the energy usage between the two features.

Two-wheeled Bicycle variants are also available, either with a slim cargo box or none at all, allowing for even faster transportation at the expense of losing its utility for long range journeys.

Origin

Powered Tricycles were invented in 911 as the usage of Electricity throughout Urushee began to rise in popularity, and demand was made for methods of transportation across longer distances without the usage of the Grand Urusheen Railway, particularly for travel to locations where the available train lines did not visit - For instance, Salvation or Aramer Watch.

At first, they would primarily see use only in these remote areas, making use of train visits to recharge the Tricycle's battery, but the convenience of the transportation method would see a steady rise in popularity over time. In particular, Powered Tricycles and their cargo models would be of great use to Scavengers of ruined cities, since their relatively small size enabled them to weave through streets and debris with little difficulty, greatly enhancing how much material could be retrieved and avoiding the disadvantages of bulkier transport options such as Carriers. At the time of writing, Powered Tricycles are the preferred method of personal transportation for individuals with the wealth or means to secure a model for themselves.
